UK Tier 2 Visas Overview

Tier 2 visas are for non-EEA skilled workers who will be employed in the UK by a sponsoring employer. This is now the primary route for UK employers wishing to bring skilled workers to the UK from outside the EEA. The employer MUST have a Tier 2 Sponsor Licence and the employee must have a Certificate of Sponsorship issued by the employer.

Tier 2 Visa Categories

There are 4 types of Tier 2 Visa categories:

• Tier 2 General
  For non-EEA Citizen skilled workers with a job offer to fill a role for a UK Company that cannot be filled by a settled worker.
• Tier 2 Intra-Company Transfer
  This allows multi-national Companies to transfer overseas employees to the UK. There are 4 sub-categories depending on the purpose and duration of the transfer.
• Tier 2 - Sports People
  For elite sports people and coaches who are internationally established at the highest level and wish to base themelves in the UK.
• Tier 2 - Ministers of Religion
  For people coming to work in the UK as a Minister of Religion, Missionary or other Member of a Religious order within a genuine religious organisation where there is no suitable settled worker to fill the role.

The role that will be performed must be of a skilled nature and paid at the appropriate rate, as defined by the relevant codes of practice.
