The Application Process for Doctors
1. Contact us for an assessment. We can represent you in your application, for which our fee is £250. Once engaged to act on your behalf we will prepare your application.2. The GMC will assess your case and decide which route of registration you will be following. This will be either :
a. As a specialist either sponsored, arranged or as a fellowship of the Royal College.
b. By taking the PLAB Test [ Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board ].
This establishes your medical proficiency and might be accompanied by an English Language proficiency test if required.
3. The GMC will then send all the appropriate forms and guidance for your particular case.
4. PLAB Test Part 1 This is conducted in your own country [ unless you are already in the UK ] and costs £145. If you pass this test, the GMC will invite you to the UK to take the PLAB Part 2 test.
5. At this point we will apply for a visa for you to enter the UK to take your Part 2 Test.
We will supply all relevant forms - please read all of these very carefully as they will detail what documentary and other evidence you will need to provide to obtain your visa.
6. Then you enter the UK and take the Part 2 test. This test costs £430.
Please let us know if you require help with accomodation or anything else while you are here.
7. If you pass this test you will be able to complete your GMC Application process.
The final fee due to the GMC is payable at this point and is £390.
8. The final step is for you to secure a Work Permit in the UK. Once you have secured employment in a UK institution, we will finalise your work permit with that employer. At this point our Permit fee becomes due. This is £450. Please note that, if your new employer or employer's representative engages our services for your work permit application, this fee will be due from them and not you.
9. You are now eligible to live and work in the UK as a Doctor in your chosen field with your new employer.
If you are a General Practitioner in your own country, further to GMC registration, you will need to show the appropriate documentation to become a GP in the UK and may need to undergo Vocational Training for General Medical Practice. We can provide useful links and advice on this area.
Please note that, under recent regulations, your employer will need all those graduating after 2001 to take the International Proficiency Test. Those graduating before 2001 are not obliged to do this.
An English Language proficiency Test [ IELTS Level 7 ] may also be requested by your employer.
